A studio built around the idea that AI should serve the business, not the other way around
← Back to HomeStarted because small businesses deserved better options
Bijak Labs came out of a simple observation: most AI tools on the market were designed for large companies with IT departments. Small shops, family-run services, and independent consultants in Malaysia were being left with products that were either too complicated or too generic to be useful.
We set up in Kuala Lumpur with a different approach. Instead of selling software, we sit down with business owners and figure out what's actually taking up their time. Then we identify the smallest, most practical change that would help — and build that, clearly, with a proper handover.
The name Bijak — meaning "wise" or "clever" in Malay — reflects what we hope our work feels like: thoughtful choices that make quiet, lasting improvements.
Make AI feel like a reliable colleague, not a foreign system
We explain what we're building, why it was chosen, and how to manage it. No black boxes, no vague promises.
Running a small business is already demanding. Our projects are scoped to fit alongside your daily commitments, not compete with them.
Every project ends with your team knowing how to manage what was built. You shouldn't need us for every small adjustment.
People behind the work
Ahmad Razif
Co-founder · AI Systems
Ahmad spent several years building customer communication tools for retail chains before deciding smaller businesses needed the same access. He leads the technical design of our assistant and workflow projects.
Lina Suraya
Co-founder · Client Experience
Lina comes from a background in SME consulting, where she noticed that technology adoption often failed not because of cost, but because of unclear handovers. She manages every project's communication and training sessions.
Tan Hwee Kian
Data & Reporting Lead
Hwee Kian joined after working with a logistics firm where she built internal dashboards that helped managers make decisions without needing to pull raw data themselves. She now leads our Insight & Reporting service.
Standards we hold ourselves to
Data Privacy
We handle client data according to Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Business records shared with us during a project are used only for that scope and never retained after delivery.
Clear Scope Documents
Before any project starts, we produce a short written scope — what we're building, what we're not, and what the handover will look like. If anything changes, we discuss it openly before proceeding.
Proper Handover Sessions
Every project includes a dedicated session where we walk your team through what was built and how to manage it day to day. Written notes are provided so the knowledge stays with you.
Regular Check-ins
During a project, we schedule brief check-ins at agreed intervals so you always know where things stand. We don't go quiet for weeks and then deliver at the end.
Tool Selection Rationale
We explain why we chose a particular AI tool or platform for your situation. You understand the reasoning, so you can evaluate it and ask questions rather than simply accepting our choice.
Post-Delivery Support
Each project includes a two-week window after handover where you can contact us with questions at no extra charge. For ongoing needs, we offer optional monthly check-in arrangements.
Working with small businesses in Malaysia
Small businesses across Malaysia — whether family-run shops in Petaling Street, service providers in Damansara, or independent consultants in KL Sentral — face a common challenge. There's no shortage of technology available, but very little of it is designed with the reality of a small team in mind.
At Bijak Labs, we work within that reality. We know that a two-person food business can't afford to take a week away from operations for onboarding. We know that a sole-proprietor accountancy firm needs to trust the tools their assistant uses to reply to clients. And we know that a retailer managing stock across two locations needs a dashboard they can read in two minutes, not a system that requires training every time something changes.
Our work is suited to businesses with fewer than 20 staff, operating across services, retail, consulting, and professional practices. We focus on tools that connect to existing platforms your team already uses — WhatsApp, common booking systems, and standard spreadsheet or accounting software — rather than requiring you to adopt an entirely new ecosystem.
We're based in Kuala Lumpur and conduct all working sessions in English, with Malay available for clients who prefer it. All written handover materials are produced in the language you'd find most useful.
Have a look at what we've built — or just reach out
There's no requirement to have a clear brief before getting in touch. A conversation about what your day looks like is often the most useful place to start.
